Woodburning, Gas and Pellet Products
Hearth, Patio, and Barbecue? You may ask where we came up with that bizarre combination! But there is some logic to it, if you'll permit us a bit of explanation...
Our roots were established during the oil embargo days of the early 1970's. Some of us remember waiting in long lines for gas, and only on the days of the week we were permitted to purchase! Heating fuel prices rose as well, and many people began to look for alternative ways to heat their homes. And thus the modern hearth industry was born.
Of course, wood burning stoves and fireplaces existed long before this period of time. However, the technology had not changed much in the previous 100 years, and a number of forward-looking individuals and companies decided it was time for a better mousetrap...
The woodburning appliance industry grew exponentially during its first decade, and eventually was joined by products that could burn natural gas, propane, and this new product called 'pellets'. Today, there are literally thousands of home heating products available, and many cutting edge appliances that stretch the definition of what is meant by the word 'fireplace'!
For all the retail businesses that owed their livelihood to the hearth industry, the dilemma has always been what to sell as a 'counter-seasonal' product. The thought of trying to sell woodstoves in July was not a winning formula in most retailer's minds. After repeated attempts with different products, the one with the most staying power proved to be patio funiture. The patio industry's selling season, at least up north, perfectly complemented the hearth industry's heating season.
So, if you are going to sell patio furniture...
Barbecues were added shortly thereafter, and we're not talking about the $99 model. America's favorite pasttime is more enjoyable than ever with today's selection of grills and smokers. Charcoal was joined by gas, and now by pellet, creating a huge variety of appliances that can do much more than just grill...
So that's how we got here. Our goal on the pages that follow is to tease you with all the wonderful products that our industry members represent. If we are sucessful, please go to our retailer locator and find a few stores near you where you can see so much more!
